The Keuka Lake Amateur Radio Association (KLARA) is proud to support the Amateur Radio Community by offering ARRL Volunteer Examiner (VE) testing for new and upgrading amateur radio operators. Whether you are pursuing your first FCC amateur radio license or working to upgrade your current license class, KLARA provides convenient, professional, and friendly testing opportunities.
Our VE program is staffed KLARA members who are certified ARRL Volunteer Examiners, dedicated to mentoring and supporting fellow hams. For more information or questions about testing email Dennis (W2KDC) our Testing Coordinator: testing@klara.us
KLARA is committed to helping amateur radio thrive — one license at a time.
KLARA uses ExamTools to administer both in-person and remote exam sessions. ExamTools works seamlessly with HamStudy by Signal Stuff — a powerful, candidate-focused platform.

KLARA regularly offers in-person VE testing sessions at our club-sponsored events, including our popular KLARA Hamfests. These sessions provide a welcoming environment for candidates who prefer face-to-face testing and assistance.
What to expect at an in-person exam:
ARRL-accredited Volunteer Examiners
Paper or computer-based exams (as available)
New license and upgrade testing
Immediate review and submission of exam results
👉 In-person exam dates and locations are announced on our Hamfest pages and club calendar.
For candidates who prefer testing from home, KLARA also participates in remote online VE testing using Zoom and ExamTools, an ARRL-approved exam management system.
Remote testing allows you to:
Test from the comfort of your home
Schedule an exam at a time that fits your availability
Take exams securely with remote VE supervision
Remote exams are ideal for busy schedules, mobility concerns, or candidates outside our local area. When your ready, sign up at HamStudy.org
Whether in-person or online, candidates should be prepared with:
A valid photo ID
Exam fee (if applicable)
Any required documentation for upgrades or accommodations
Details specific to each exam session will be provided at registration.
